LG G Flex
The LG G Flex is noteworthy on account of its curved design and it is quite a head turner of sorts and is easily noticeable. The 700mm curvature radius is perfect according to LG on this smartphone and it can also be bended up to a maximum of 400mm upon the application of pressure to the middle and this is indeed a precursor to the future when smartphones can be rolled up and folded without any hassles. The curve has been naturally incorporated into the smartphone but the LG G Flex is quite a heavy smartphone, weighing almost 177 grams. However, weight distribution and structural contours make for a perfectly usable experience of sorts. Alongside, the ergonomics on this smartphone are just perfect.
The buttons are placed at the rear much in the manner of the flagship G2 smartphone. The camera is incorporated onto a raised slab with power and volume buttons placed right beneath it. The IR blaster and flash are also placed on both sides of the camera and LG has also incorporated a coating with self healing properties which can combat scratches and this is another plus point for customers. The smartphone also comes with microUSB, microSIM, microphone and 3.5 mm jack slots. The shape is unique and this generates a sense of overall wonder along with flattening properties.
The LG G Flex comes with a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with a 330 Adreno GPU as well which ensures superior graphic quality. However, one drawback is that memory cannot be quite expanded with the LG G Flex and this might be a possible deterrent for users. There is 32 GB of internal storage capacity and this will have to do as far as using the smartphone is concerned. The rear camera of 13 megapixels comes with a special LED flash. The smartphone also comprises of a front camera of 2.1 megapixels and this works fine for clicking selfies and video calling among other activities. Ultra high definition videos can be shot courtesy the camera at the rear. 1080p video recording is also possible for this device. On the other hand, there is also a microSIM slot and 2G and 3G connectivity. There is no support for 4G connectivity which can also be a possible deterrent and other features include sensors like the gyro, compass, accelerometer and proximity. The curvature enhances the appeal of the six inch 720p display panel. The 245 dpi display screen provides viewing angles that are quite decent to say the least. Alongside, the screen looks somewhat dim even when brightness is increased to the maximum level. In addition, the uniquely curved shape again plays the role of savior with a one of its kind immersion effect for video watching. This is much more appealing as compared to watching videos on flat screen devices. LG has also incorporated Android 4.2.2 and an update should be in the offing. Flagship smartphone models should ideally be coming with latest Android versions and the company should have provided the 4.4 Kit Kat OS instead. The Android OS has been customized impeccably and one can say that the TouchWiz from Samsung serves as inspiration in this regard. This pertains to the notification slider settings, appealing icons and bloatware. The display screen can be locked or even awakened with only a couple of taps like the LG G2 and vertical scrolling is made more interesting courtesy the accelerometer.
There are special navigation buttons on the screen and customization of the same is largely possible. Alongside, the Qslide feature enables memo creation along with screenshots and sharing on social media. Transparency adjustments are possible along with split screen operation modes. There are multiple apps that come with this smartphone including QTheatre, SmartWorld, Update Center, Life Square, Remote Call Service, Quick Remote, and LG backup, Quick Translator, Box, Polaris Viewer 5 and Memo. There are multiple camera options and features for customers to play around with. These include the Sphere app, VR panorama mode for 360 degree 3D plane captures and dual camera. The battery life is one area where LG has got it spot on to say the least! The LG G Flex runs uninterruptedly and seems to go on forever with continuous video playback possible for a mindboggling 13 hours and 32 minutes! With regular heavy usage, the battery should last a couple of days at least! This is one of the best things about this smartphone and should have customers flocking to buy it in droves especially in India!
Performance is quite fast and seamless and this makes up for the outdated Android OS somewhat. Additional immersion is another special feature for customers which should be a huge hit along with flattening capabilities. 4K videos can be viewed nicely and reproduction of colors is just perfect. However, the price of this behemoth is a little too high at INR 68, 500 which is outright expensive by any standards. Exclusivity is a major attraction touted by this smartphone but this may be too high a price to pay for the same according to Indian customers. If you have the means and the inclination to splurge on a unique smartphone, the LG G Flex does make for a potent choice owing to its features, performance and unique design!
